Camaro Z/28 (1982), Monogram, Scale 1:8

The Camaro Z/28 (1982) from Monogram, in the scale of 1:8, is finished.

It was the first model for many years. It was nice to build something again. I am not sure how long it took me to build it but I think it was over a period of 5-6 months. But to be honest, I did spend every day building it. I just did it when I had some time and was in the mood for it. I was not in a hurry.

Some Details.

The kit was from Monogram. It was in the scale of 1:8. The finished car is 59-60 cm long. It had around 150 parts. The body is made in “Metal Glow”. This means the body looks like it is painted in metallic paint. There is also something from Turtle Wax. With that, you can treat the finished kit so that it will shine and protect it. But I am not sure if I will use it.

The paint that I used for this model was the Revell Aqua Color. Black Matt 36108, Silver Metalic 36190, Black Silk Matt 36302, Fiery Red 36131, White 36104, Orange 36130, Blue 36152, Gold 36194, Steel 36191

For the “easy” parts to glue, I used the “Plastic Magic”. For the parts that were a little bit difficult or had a very small uneven surface, I used the Revell Contacta Liquid.

Small History of This Kit.

I had bought this kit in my younger years. I am not sure when exactly I had bought it but I think it was maybe the late 80’s.

Before this, I already had bought a kit from the same brand and in the same scale. It was a Corvette C4. And had built it in the ’80s. To my surprise, it had survived all the moving around.

It is a rare model. At the time I bought them, I think they cost around 100 guilders. I think in euros it will be around €150.

As far as I could trance back, Monogram had 6 different models at the time and all in the scale of 1:8. Last time I did some searching and found a picture of someone who had built all of them. If you search further, on eBay you can still find some models for sale. The prices are going from € 120 up to almost € 1200.

It is a lot of money, but these models are very rare and are not made anymore.

As I had mentioned before, I had bought this kit in the late ’80s. Every time we moved or I had moved out, the box had moved with me. I was surprised that it had survived all of that, without any problem. I was afraid that maybe the decals would give me some problems, but all went fine.

My Thoughts.

It was a nice kit to get started again. Just to get the feel for building scale models again. This is also the reason why I started with this big kit. I thought that it would be a good start. The parts are not too small.

It is nice to see it finished. Now the “problem” starts, where to put it or display it. It is big. For now, I think I will put it back in the box. Then at least it will be dust-free.

It also gave me a good feeling. Just to see the finished model and the memories from the past. And maybe also that I still can build cars like these. Just a little bit rusty, but that’s fine.

So, what will be next? That will be the Alfa Romeo from Italeri. Why this one? This is the latest kit in my collection. I had get it for my birthday. It is also a little bit smaller than this Camaro. I thought it is a good way, to get down to the smaller models. I went through the building instructions and was a little bit impressed with all the details that that kit has. I just hope that I can do it justice. But as always, I am not in a hurry and just want to have fun and enjoy the build.
